Right-handed Pitcher, A Columbus RedStixx
- The Columbus right-hander has been termed a "sleeper" and it's a label he can live with.
"I've been told I could have gone higher, but I could have gone lower," Foley said of his
fourth-round draft status -- not to shabby on its own. "I like having the reputation of a
sleeper. I got that last year in Burlington. Who cares what round you were picked in. You
still have to go out and prove yourself."
- Last year's top draft picks Daniel Denham and
J.D. Martin have been wracking up the press time,
especially in Cleveland. With the parent-club Indians suffering through a so-so season, all
the eyes of the city turned to a pitcher-loaded 2000 draft which promises to be in Cleveland
soon.
- The city is eager for news on the youngsters and the newspapers have indulged them. While
those two first-rounders performed well, Foley has stolen the show. In 13 starts, Foley
posted a 7-2 record with a 2.52 earned run average. While his counterparts are giving up
just about a hit for every inning pitched, Foley allowed only 49 hits in 64 1/3 innings
of work. He has 68 strikeouts to only 28 walks and the league is batting only .207 against
him.
- Foley is one of five RedStixx players who will be representing Columbus on the South squad
in the 2002 South Atlantic League All-Star game in Lakewood, N.J.
